One of 20 R-word song-a-weeks, this one for "Rise"

When I was driving around Lake Superior last fall, the chorus for this song came to me: you can tell; it's in the eyes - this one dies and this one's gonna rise. Some discorporated spirits stick around to say something, while others dissolve, disappear, or distance themselves.

So I thought to ask them: if they could teach one lesson to the living, what would it be?

One at a time they came and sat in the passenger's seat beside me as I drove around bends, past shining lakes, through blasted paths in the rockface, and they told me, in the end, what they'd learned. This is the advice of the dead for the living. Follow it or don't; it's up to you.
