Some relationships feel like they've followed you into this life, and that you'll follow them into the next. Identifying what incarnation they are in the moment is the hardest part, no matter how familiar they feel. You try one on and see if it fits and adjust as needed if you're lucky. Walk together, walk apart, and see where you meet again.
